Flagstaff, Arizona’s Sacred Peaks Under Fire

Throngs of people tote banners and march through the tiny mountain town of Flagstaff, Arizona in opposition to the local ski resort’s plan to expand operations on the San Francisco Peaks and use treated sewage effluent to make snow. Thirteen Native American tribes including the Dine (Navajo), Hopi, Hualapai and Yavapai Apache Indians consider the Peaks extremely sacred; their deities reside here and they worship, make offerings, conduct ceremonies and gather herbs throughout the range.
