EPA finalizes new recycling safeguards that will strengthen protection for environmental justice communities

EPA Rule Promotes Responsible Hazardous Materials. Recycling, Protects Communities. Rachel Deitz, US Environmental Protection Agency Newsroom, December 10, 2014. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized new safeguards that promote responsible recycling of hazardous secondary materials. The Definition of Solid Waste (DSW) final rule modifies the EPA’s 2008 DSW to protect human health and the environment from mismanagement of hazardous secondary material, and demonstrates a significant step forward in promoting recycling innovation. The rule will result in both resource conservation and economic benefits, while strengthening protections for environmental justice communities.
